**The issue** Overgrown area between Wooton Road and Sutcliffe Avenue beside the old library building (Flourish). There was also a huge amount of fly-tipping and serious risk of arson in the area due to the litter.\ Frank Sparkes ([North Wall Cleaner](https://www.facebook.com/franksparkesnorthwall/)) got permission via Ward Councillors and NELC to clear the space.\ Frank cleared the area uncovering seating and old bins. Frank and his volunteers did a great job bringing the space back to life. Frank then had an issue with the bins and seats. They needed cleaning and repainting. So Frank approached the Forum and we (the Forum & VANEL) managed to secure a small amount of money to purchase undercoat and Hammerite to repaint. Frank and his team did the hard work and brought the area back to life. The area is currently available for the public to use and Frank continues to keep the area free of litter. **Status and progress** Project to clear the area and paint it completed early September 2025. Late September work has finished on site as NELC has now sold the land. Will need to see what happens next. Big thanks to Frank and his team for the work to date and the seating area continues to be used and appreciated by the community at the moment. **Barriers and obstacles** Funding these sorts of project is always an issue.
